Case Studies
Below are a few case studies of products manufactured by GRT-Mars:
Sunroc Midpan The manufacture and assembly of water coolers is a surprisingly time consuming process. In order to create a competitive advantage on both price and performance, GRT-Mars was brought in to reduce part count, assembly time, and unit weight, while improving reliability. Plastic pans were designed that integrated the functionality of a number of metal parts. Overall part count was reduced by 40%, and assembly cost by 25%.
GRT-Mars was contracted to convert an existing metal speaker grill to plastic. The goal was to reduce cost and improve aesthetics. The key design challenge was getting the plastic to flow through the grill area without creating any aesthetic problems such as gas traps. The use of process simulation during the design phase led to quality parts on the first shots, and kept the project on time and under budget.

As the single-use camera market began to explode, the customer contracted GRT-Mars to optimize the cycle times on a complex mold. Using filling and cooling simulations of the mold along with SLA models of key inserts for visualization, GRT-Mars was able to develop tool modifications resulting in significant dollar savings on part cost.
The customer wanted to introduce a garage-door opener that would be next-generation in both technology and appearance. GRT-Mars responded with the Quantum System, which incorporated GRT-Mars developed technological innovations such as wireless safety sensors, an anti-theft encrypted keycode, and push-button system learning, into a sleek, innovative housing. GRT-Mars provides the plastics & electronics to the customer for final assembly at their site.
GRT-Mars was brought into a team to develop the Army's Land Warrior 2000 backpack. GRT-Mars had full responsibility for the mechanical design, working with other vendors on the program to integrate electronics, cabling, and connectors into a rugged, light weight package. In order to meet Army field test schedules, GRT-Mars accelerated the project schedule and created rapid prototype tooling to get units into the field.
